Who Is a Good Candidate for Dentures?
It goes without saying that missing teeth should be replaced promptly; not only does the issue cause difficulties with eating and speaking, but it can also increase the likelihood of additional teeth falling out. Fortunately, dentures are often an ideal solution for patients missing several teeth or even an entire arch.
In order to determine if dentures are a viable option for you, you’ll need to schedule a consultation. During this visit, Dr. Gakavian will conduct an oral examination to determine an appropriate denture solution for your smile’s unique needs. If any untreated issues are present, such as tooth decay or gum disease, we’ll be sure to incorporate the appropriate care into your treatment plan.
Types of Dentures
A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues, and there are a few different types that are designed for different situations. After determining you to be an eligible candidate for dentures, Dr. Gakavian will likely recommend one of the following types of dentures based on your needs:
Partial Dentures
Partial dentures are used when one or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw. Not only does a partial denture fill in the spaces created by missing teeth, but it also prevents other teeth from changing position. By attaching a clasp to your remaining teeth, we can use a gum-colored base and custom prosthetic teeth to seamlessly restore your smile to a beautiful, functional standard.
Full Dentures
This type of denture also consists of a discreet, gum-colored base and lifelike prosthetic teeth and is ideal for patients missing an entire arch or both arches of teeth. The base is custom fitted to your mouth, and the restoration itself relies on suction, muscle control, and adhesive to remain in place.
Implant Dentures
Implant dentures combine all the benefits of dentures with the ingenuity of dental implants. They remain sturdily in place thanks to implant posts that are surgically embedded directly into your jawbone. This provides an incredibly strong foundation for your new teeth and eliminates any unwanted movement. They can also restore bite force and prevent jawbone deterioration.
